Using Pulse Oximeters as a Therapeutic Tool

Turning Point Center for Youth and Family Development is integrating technology with therapy and coaching by introducing pulse oximeters into their practice. This innovative approach, supported by generous funding from the Mckee Wellness Foundation, is set to improve  how clients understand and manage their emotional health.

Pulse oximeters, traditionally used to measure oxygen levels and heart rate, are now being repurposed as a means to gain insight into one's emotional state. By monitoring physiological markers, individuals can learn to recognize the onset of stress and anxiety. This biofeedback mechanism is a game-changer; it empowers clients, putting them in control and boosting their confidence in their ability to develop strategies for emotional regulation, such as controlled breathing and mindfulness, which can have a profound impact on their overall well-being.

The acquisition of 37 pulse oximeters, facilitated by the Mckee Wellness Foundation's support and an opportune Amazon Prime sale, is a testament to Turning Point's commitment to providing cutting-edge therapeutic services. These devices will be instrumental in both individual and family therapy sessions and and in behavior coaching, and hold the potential for other therapeutic applications in the future.

This initiative is an  example of how technology and healthcare can collaborate to create tools that enhance therapeutic outcomes and equip individuals with the skills needed for long-term emotional resilience. The future looks bright for the clients at Turning Point as they embark on a journey toward better emotional health with these new tools.
