SAMHSA’s “Talk. They Hear You.” Campaign Launches New Screening Tool

SAMHSA promotes evidence-based prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery support strategies to help parents and caregivers, educators, and community members meet the needs of young people. Prevention and early intervention strategies reduce risks and harms associated with substance use disorders and mental health challenges. Today, we are pleased to announce an important resource to support youth and their families.

Screen4Success, a NEW screening tool from SAMHSA’s “Talk. They Hear You.”® national prevention campaign, can help you better understand your child’s health, wellness, and wellbeing and find useful resources to address their needs. Screening is a fast and easy way to learn if youth are at elevated risk for potential problems and where they can find support.

Why should I use Screen4Success?

Screen4Success asks questions about substance use, mental and physical health, general wellbeing, and family life. It provides an easy way for parents and caregivers to identify areas where their children may benefit from additional support.

How does Screen4Success work?

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to fill out the screener with their kids—this provides opportunities for discussion in the moment—but if that’s not possible, the screener can be sent to them to complete on their own. Once the screener is completed, helpful resources are provided based on the results.

When can I get started?

Screen4Success is available now, and enhancements are coming soon! The “Talk. They Hear You.” campaign team is continuously updating the National Resources and adding a Resources Near Me section that will allow participants to find support in their area that can address their needs.

How can I access Screen4Success?

Access it on your mobile device through the “Talk. They Hear You.” campaign mobile app. You can download this mobile app for free in the App Store, Google Play, and the Microsoft Store. In the app, you can find Screen4Success by selecting the Screening button in the app’s main navigation.
