October's Peek At The Point

Hello Turning Point's supporters and friends!

It has been a while since we have shared a newsletter, but that's because we have been super busy!  We thank all of you for your patience and ongoing support through our progress.  Read on to learn more of what we have been up to!

Turning Point Program Updates!

Turning Point has some new team and board members!

Wendy Lee re-joined the Turning Point team last Spring, serving as Interim Clinical Director. We are grateful to have her vast experience and therapeutic leadership at the helm!

Melissa Jeffryes joined the Board of Directors this summer, adding some veteran Turning Point experience to the board. Thank you Melissa!

Trevor Lenz, another familiar name from Turning Point's past, rejoined the team serving as Addictions Specialist with the Intensive Outpatient Program.

Taryn Lesser and Katherine Eftink joined the team as therapist. Taryn is doing a lot of great outreach efforts in Weld County.

Parker Thurston is our new Administrative Assistance working hard to keep us organized and phones answered.

We also brought in several new behavior coaches who we will share more about in future months!

To see our team (minus the coaches!), visit the Meet the Team page on our website.

Below is a (partial) team photo taken at our October staff meeting, when we had the North Colorado Health Alliance and Colorado Opioid Synergy Larimer & Weld presenting on the topic of preventing opioid overdoses.

Success Story Spotlight: Partnering for better Emergency Preparedness

Turning Point has monthly staff meetings that also include agency-wide staff training. In August, the Fort Collins Police Department did an active shooter training with staff. During this training, the facilitators reviewed what is needed during an active shooter situation. It was requested that Turning Point have equipment, such as a Tourniquet and QuickClot, setting us up for the best outcomes in any situation.

After the meeting, staff member Trevor Lenz reached out to the Mckee Wellness Foundation to request funding to cover the cost of purchasing a Tourniquet and QuickClot kit that we can have in the building. Turning Point provides mental health and substance use treatment services to adolescents and adults through outpatient services like the Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program and DUI/DWAI programs. We must do our best to be prepared to protect staff and clients should an emergency arise. All staff are required to have First Aid and CPR training, knowing how to use first aid kits and handle emergencies. The Tourniquet and Quick clot are kept with our first aid kits.

We hope never to need to use these items but are thankful to the Mckee Foundation for the funding and Fort Collins Police Department for the training, that helps us to be even better prepared!

THANK YOU Mckee Wellness Foundation and Fort Collins Police Department!!!!
