Getting Better Prepared for Emergencies

Turning Point has monthly staff meetings that also include agency-wide staff training. In August, the Fort Collins Police Department did an active shooter training with staff. During this training, the facilitators reviewed what is needed during an active shooter situation. It was requested that Turning Point have equipment, such as a Tourniquet and QuickClot, setting us up for the best outcomes in any situation.

After the meeting, staff member Trevor Lenz, reached out to the Mckee Foundation to request funding to cover the cost of purchasing a Tourniquet and QuickClot kit that we can have in the building. Turning Point provides mental health and substance use treatment services to adolescents and adults through outpatient services like the Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program and DUI/DWAI programs. We must do our best to be prepared to protect staff and clients should an emergency arise. All staff are required to have First Aid and CPR training, knowing how to use first aid kits and handle emergencies. The Tourniquet and Quick clot are kept with our first aid kits.

We hope never to need to use these items but are thankful to the Mckee Foundation for the funding and Fort Collins Police Department for the training, that helps us to be even better prepared!
